Be On The Front Foot With Facebook for 2020

Get your year started off with a bang, don’t carry baggage from last year.

1 – Review what you did last year.  Pat yourself on the back for achievements and learn from activities that did not do so well for you.  It is important to reflect on your challenges and learn from every step of the process, good or bad.  A useful tool on Facebook is your insights, study them, take note of what worked and what did not and tweak your content accordingly to improve the insights for the year to come

2 – Google Analytics.  This is a magic little tool that not many people know about.  You do need to have a Google account to set this up (in your browser search for ‘Google Analytics’ and it will take you there).  This tool shows you the traffic between your Facebook page and your website, you can link all your URLs.  Have a look at this monthly so that you can ascertain what content is creating the most traffic.

3 – Download Facebook content.    This is a fantastic backup tool – and it’s free.  Remember that Facebook owns all your content on your page and they can take it away at any time and then it is gone forever so download your content regularly and store it.  You can also use this past content to create templates for future use.  There is no harm in repurposing old content.

4 – Time Management tool.  All of my VIP’s will have a special time management tool.  This is very effective in forward planning your time.  Block out days when you will be taking a holiday with your family, or public holidays and school holidays. If you want to go to the gym or meditation daily block out those hours so that no appointments are made during those times.  This calendar can be linked to your bookings calendar so that people know you are not available at that time.  Don’t let your work overcrowd your family or relaxation time, remember there always needs to be a balance

5 – Special occasions on your social media calendar.  You can plan for the year ahead by taking note of special days and holidays and plan content and run events accordingly.  For example, you know that Fathers day is coming up; you can plan your content and events leading up to the special day. For an event or competition, remind followers once or twice a week for 6 weeks leading up the day.   A good tool to use is Trello Boards.  You can store your planned events and content you are working in folders i.e. – competitions, events, blogs etc.  The content is then there to copy and schedule when you are ready.

6 – Graphics and Branding.  Take a few hours to do some housekeeping.  Refresh your page; check that your fonts and colours have not digressed in the past year.  Check that your links are still valid and your price lists are updated.  It is important to regularly make sure that your page is ship, shape and sharp for the year ahead.
