The definition of niche is a specialized segment of the market for a particular kind of product or service.
Here is an example of why having your niche can be advantageous.
My friend had a cute little puppy and it injured itself and needed surgery. So when we were looking for vets there was one ad that mentioned cows and turtles and rabbits and every animal under the sun and then there was one that spoke specifically about puppies and leg injuries. So, which one would you be more comfortable going with? The specialist right?
That is what niche is – your speciality.
Having your finger in many pies does broaden your scope but a broad scope is not always good. You need to have something that is your speciality, something you do better than anyone else. Have other things as well, but specialise in one thing.
