I believe that Facebook brought out Watch Party because Lives were not doing so well any more, why else would they do that, they are very similar?
I think that Lives don’t do as well as they used to because people are generally on Facebook at work and are not able to watch videos and there were also loads of really stupid content videos so people lost interest. I hate it when some Facebook coaches say that you need to do a Facebook Live every day for 30 days to increase traffic. That is a load of rubbish; unless you are posting valuable content to the right audience a Facebook Live is not going to work. The other thing is you need to consider when your audience is going to be online to be able to see it. For example, if you are promoting a baby-related service you are not going to post it when kids are going to sleep. You need to post when it is convenient for your audience, not you. Also remember, you can recycle and repurpose your content over and over again, milk it for all it is worth.
Some for the things that work with Lives it to have a regular show.
I had a client who is a sexologist and she would have a show every Friday night after the kids have gone to sleep and it was really popular – you would grab a glass of wine and watch. Another lady I know is a business coach and she did the same thing. But, remember, this is every week so it is a huge commitment, you are also not getting paid for it so you need to assess if it is worth your valuable time and energy. If it is not generating leads and sales then why do it.
So then Facebook brought out Watch Party.
Basically, you can take any PUBLIC video and create a watch party. So, for example, if I have a video that I published a year ago I can take that video and create a watch party. You then invite the people who you think can benefit from it. You can then watch it together and engage and comment while watching the video. Kind of like inviting someone over to watch a movie. When I went to the Heal Yourself expo and I was on my way home I stopped and recorded a video. But it was the middle of the day on a Saturday so instead of posting it as a Live when I got home that night I sat with my glass of wine and created a watch party and I invited loads of people and we all watched it and engaged. The problem with Watch Party is that if people have no idea what it is they have no idea what to do. You also need to have a catchy headline to entice them to join your watch party. The benefit of the Watch Party is you can post it when it is the most convenient time for your audience. The one lady I went to visit does not have signal in her warehouse so she can not do Lives so she uses a thing called ECam and she records her video and then posts it has a Watch Party. Watch Party also has its advantages of being able to interact while watching it with them, you can answer questions and engage which is something you cannot do with Lives.
